Demo Overview

Manufacturers have an increased demand for flexible production lines to react more flexible on production peaks and to support more efficient:

  • 24/7 productions

  • increasing number of new product introductions

  • increasing number of product characteristics and tailor-made productions

This causes in an increase in the energy consumption and requires also a higher flexibility in energy consumption itself.

The scenario is about a car manufacturer who is driving efforts to significantly reduce the energy requirement per vehicle. In addition, there is a demand from the customers of the car manufacturer to use more renewable energy in production. As result the car manufacturer wants to use as much as possible of its own produced renewable energy for the factory to reduce the costs.

That all leads to that car manufacturer would like to rely on their own optimised energy generation in combination with external energy sources. To cover their basic energy requirements in their factories they have delivery contracts with multiple energy suppliers. In order to meet the mentioned requirements, they have built their own power supply for a factory. The power supply consists of photo-voltaic systems installed on the roof of the factory and wind turbines placed next to the plant. Excess energy from the energy plants is stored in batteries. In order to improve their ability to manage and monitor their energy production assets they have established a central monitoring system which provides information about the energy production/consumption of the factory, health information about the energy production machines.

Key Messages

  • Device Management & Condition Monitoring enabling the manufacturer to monitor and manage energy production and consumption in the factories

  • Manage the energy production according to the upcoming planned production

  • Highly secure and encrypted device communication

  • Highly scalable and flexible deployment infrastructure

  • Applications development time is reduced from many months to a few weeks
